First Night Insurance is a package policy designed specifically for Amateur Theatrical Societies by Gordon & Co, one of the major Theatrical Insurance Brokers in the UK, and underwritten by Zurich Insurance plc.
The package has been designed to provide a range of benefits aimed specifically at the amateur market.
Gordon & Co itself was formed in 1936 and since then has specialised in providing Insurance solutions for the entertainment profession. As a natural progression, First Night was launched in April 1999 to provide Insurance for Amateur Societies. Since then,
it has grown quite considerably and now insures many thousands of societies.
The package has been keenly rated to provide wide cover for the minimum premium (currently £179.20 including 12% Insurance Premium Tax plus £10 administration charge). The Policy provides cover under the following four basic headings:
Trying to insure any or all of the above separately will be both difficult and expensive. In fact, our minimum premium is one of the lowest in the market for a Commercial Insurance Package.
Due to our experience we have also tried to provide our Policyholders with additional benefits. Our preferred suppliers scheme, which to our knowledge is unique, provides our Policyholders with the opportunity of using professional theatrical suppliers. These suppliers appreciate the professionalism of the societies and have acknowledged this by providing discounts. The list ranges from suppliers of sets and costumes to the rental of a West End Theatre.
In addition, our Managing Director, Robert Israel, writes an insurance article each month in Amateur Stage. This is designed to give you more of an insight into Insurance as it relates to Amateur Societies.
You should never put on a performance, or even commence rehearsals, without Insurance. Always remember - Don't let your First Night be your last night.
